The Message Of More
How can we ever be enough if we are constantly fed a message of more?
From the first flickers of awareness on our human journey we are fed the message of more. We come here with an inner knowing of who we are and what we came to do but it is quickly drowned out. We need to be more. We need to have more. Smarter, better, more successful, more productive, better behaved, more beautiful. We need to be quieter, louder, bolder, meeker. More money, more things. In this quest for more we begin to betray our uniqueness, we shut down the voice inside that always knew who we were and who we were meant to be. It shouts at us from within, “Remember?! We’re all that we need to be. There’s no need for more!” But we can no longer hear it.
The message of more makes us competitive. It breeds jealousy and disconnects us from others. It blinds our vision and it hides the truth. The truth that we are all here for a very specific purpose and have our own light to give. We all shine. Another bright light does not diminish our own, in fact acknowledging the light in another will only help ours to continue to glow.
The message of more makes us believe that not only are these physical bodies the most important thing, but that they just aren't enough. We alter ourselves, we contort and contract. We force our appearance to be different than what it was meant to be. We need to be more beautiful, smaller, bigger…anything more than what we are. But, it's all beauty. The search for more has left us blind.
The message of more leads us to believe that the amount of money we have, the houses we live in, the cars we drive, the clothes we wear, that it’s all who we are. And it's never enough. It is not us, it is not a reflection of our true selves, so how could it ever be enough? The value placed on these things, above all else, will lead only to emptiness. Only to wanting more. We can enjoy and experience everything that life has to offer, but the moment we believe it is who we are or that it puts us above or below another, that is the moment you can be sure it will never satisfy you. You will only wish for more.
The message of more keeps us so busy and so distracted that we can't hear our inner voice. The doing becomes more important the being. How we perform becomes a better measure of success than who we are. What everyone else wants from us becomes louder than what we want for ourselves. Another person's path becomes our own. We try so hard to keep up. We simply can't. It's not designed for us. It's designed for them. How will it ever be enough when it was never meant for us? We have been equipped with everything we will need for OUR journey, but if we choose to follow another’s, we won’t ever have what you need. We will be lost. Searching for more.
We have forgotten that we are enough. The message of more keeps us lost and confused. Dissatisfied, diseased and apathetic. The resistance blocks all of life's true riches and when we are not in flow, nothing can be enjoyed, it can never be enough.
Remember who you are and why you are here. Be true to the light within you. It is unlike anyone else's and you can never force it to be anything other than what it is. It is nothing more and nothing less. The longer you betray your inner truth, the harder it will be to recognize it. You're not searching for more. You're searching for yourself.
